Texas Couple Turns Hand-Drawn Plan Into Custom Farmersville Barndominium Within Their Set Budget

After nearly a year searching for the right builder, Cindy and Randy Lentz worked with Texas Complete Barndo Solutions to create a 1,300-square-foot home designed for their next chapter closer to family.

After spending nearly a year searching for a construction company, Cindy and Randy Lentz found the team they trusted to turn Cindy’s hand-drawn ideas into a custom barndominium in Farmersville, Texas.

The couple chose Farmersville to be closer to their son as they entered retirement. Their completed 1,300-square-foot, single-level barndominium includes an attached one-car garage and was designed around how they wanted to live while staying within the budget they had established for the project.

For the Lentzes, keeping the build within that financial framework was an important part of the process. After selling their previous house, they knew how much they wanted to allocate toward their new home.

“We had a set amount. We sold our house and we had that much money to build,” Cindy Lentz said in a video testimonial about the project. She added that the Texas Complete Barndo Solutions team worked closely with them to stay within those guidelines while still creating a home they were happy with.

The project began much more simply than a finished set of architectural drawings. Cindy arrived with a sheet of paper containing her ideas for the home, and the team worked with the couple to develop those ideas through planning, permitting and construction.

“From the minute we started with my sheet of paper that was scribbled on, all the things that I wanted, to going through the planning, to permits… Coby and Kelly just kept it running smooth the whole time,” Cindy said.

Cindy said the couple had been looking for a builder for approximately a year before finding Texas Complete Barndo Solutions. She recalled that after their first meeting with the team, she and Randy felt they had found the right fit for their project.

The ability to make adjustments during construction was also important. Cindy said that when she wanted smaller changes made as the project progressed, the team worked with her to find a solution rather than treating the original plan as fixed.

Founder Justin Nowak said that flexibility is an important part of building a truly custom home.

“Every client walks in with a vision. Sometimes it’s on a napkin, sometimes it’s a full sheet of notes like Cindy brought us,” said Nowak. “Our job is to take that vision and manage every step so the homeowner understands what happens next. The goal isn’t simply to build a structure. It’s to build the home that works for the life they actually want to live.”

Cindy also described how the team helped her navigate the uncertainty that can come with a custom construction project. When parts of the process became stressful, she said the team took the time to explain what was happening and guide her through the next steps.

That experience ultimately created a relationship that went beyond a typical homeowner-builder interaction. Cindy praised the team’s workmanship and integrity and said she and Randy came to consider the people they worked with friends rather than simply their builders. She also said her son became interested in undertaking a project of his own after seeing the work being done on his parents’ home.
