GDOT Data Shows Cobb County Recorded Over 27,000 Crashes in 2024 – Third Highest in Georgia
MARIETTA, GA. – Multiple fatal commercial truck crashes on Interstate 75 in Cobb County in the first half of 2026, combined with newly analyzed Georgia Department of Transportation crash data, paint a troubling picture of one of metro Atlanta’s most dangerous road corridors, according to Truck Accident Attorney Charles Graham of The Graham Firm in Marietta.
Graham, a former Cobb County prosecutor and former commercial trucking company owner who operated Class 8 tractor-trailers, says the pattern reflects systemic conditions that go beyond individual driver error.
“What we’re seeing on I-75 in 2026 isn’t a series of unrelated accidents,” said Graham, known across Georgia as Big Truck Chuck. “It’s a pattern. Commercial truck traffic has increased significantly on this corridor, and the consequences when something goes wrong at highway speed are catastrophic. The data shows the same dangerous roads and intersections in Cobb County producing the same tragedies year after year.”
According to the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, Cobb County recorded over 27,000 crashes in 2024 alone, with 449 suspected serious injuries and 57 fatalities, making it the third-highest crash county in all of Georgia. GDOT Crash Data Dashboard records covering 2020-2024 show the Cobb County Police Department handled over 7,000 crash reports across that five-year period.
The I-75 corridor has been particularly active in 2026. In January, a tractor-trailer driver was killed after his commercial vehicle overturned on the exit ramp at Wade Green Road, according to WSB-TV. In April, two people were killed when a semi-truck overturned near the Wade Green and Hickory Grove Road exits in a chain-reaction crash. In May, a Cobb County man was killed after rear-ending a stopped tractor-trailer on the bridge over North Marietta Parkway. That same month, two more people were killed when a car struck a CobbLinc bus northbound past Canton Road. In August 2025, FOX 5 Atlanta reported a tractor-trailer driver was struck and killed in a hit-and-run near South Marietta Parkway.
The danger extends well beyond the interstate. A Marietta Daily Journal investigation found eight people were killed on South Cobb Drive in just a three-mile stretch between Austell and Church roads over a recent multi-year period. Austell Road was flagged by Cobb County police as one of the highest-incident corridors in the county. In March 2026, a motorcyclist was killed on South Cobb Drive after a driver making a left turn crossed into his path and fled. Cobb County recorded at least 14 fatal crashes involving people on foot in 2024, with seven occurring in the final 30 days of the year.
Attorney Graham’s background operating Class 8 tractor-trailers gives him a specific perspective on why these crashes keep happening.
